Meet the dog mums behind the brands we love

Behind every pooch is a loving paw-rent, and behind every dog-loving brand is a beautiful story.

Having been founded by our very own dog-mum-in-business, there’s nothing we love more at Pooky & Boo than seeing our fellow fur-mummas kick their four-legged goals out the park.

So today, we wanted to recognise not only some of our favourite furbabies, but the boss ladies behind the fur-friendly businesses we know and love, and the gorgeous backstories behind their brands.

Evie & Chester - meet Michelle

Perth pooch, Evie the Cavoodle, has been gracing our Instagram feeds with content and cuteness for several years now, and even introduced little brother Chester to her dedicated furry following earlier in 2020. But did you know the furmumma behind the adorable duo? Teacher Michelle created Evie’s Instagram page in 2015 as a way of sharing adorable snaps of her furry addition with Perth’s pooch-loving community. She’s since gone on to set up a small Etsy store of her own selling gorgeous handsewn pieces for our four-legged friends, naturally named after her loving furbabies!

Walks and Borks - meet Shannon

Ever get the guilts when leaving your pupper at home to go to work or run life’s errands (what fur mumma hasn’t?!. Well that was the inspiration behind Walks and Borks - the initiative of Perth-based dog mum and self-confessed ‘pet dork’, Shannon. Fed up of leaving her own furbabies (Des and Jupiter) at home while she worked her office job, Shannon set up her very own dog adventure, training and animal care business so other dog mums didn’t have to deal with the working day guilts. You can often catch Shannon around the beaches and parks of Perth taking her dog squad on their latest adventure, chaperoning four-legged friends to their paw-rents wedding, or bringing together Perth’s fluffy community (and their dog mums and dads) at her regular Woof and Wine Club event.

Dogfolk Photography - meet Katy and Shell

If we’re talking about brands with beautiful inspiration behind them, it doesn’t get much better than the story of Katy and Shell - the creators of Melbourne-based dog photography brand, Dogfolk Photography, and (above all else) loving dog mums to Ziggy. Inspired by their days at home with their equal-parts gorgeous and cheeky cocker spaniel, Katy and Shell set about combining their skills in lifestyle photography, copywriting and behind-the-scenes dog whispering to help fellow families capture their own special moments at home with their furry friends. You can read some of the beautiful backstories of their furry encounters at Dogfolk Society, or browse some of their latest in-home shoots at the Dogfolk Photography website (we promise you won’t be disappointed!)

Frankie Loves Barkery - meet Esther

School teacher by day, treat maker by night, Esther is the furmumma of famous pooch, Frankie - the fluffy face behind Perth-based brand, Frankie Loves Barkery. Esther established her fur-friendly venture back in 2017 when Frankie started suffering food intolerances with shop-bought dog products, and has been hand-baking delicious, nutrition-filled treats for our beloved pooches ever since! She’s now extended her passion for all things handmade into her very own pup accessory range, Frankie Wears, featuring handsewn bandanas, bowties and matching scrunchies for all us furmammas!

Pooky & Boo - meet me, Sue!

Untitled Design.png

Hi fluffies, I’m Sue, the fur mum behind Australian-based dog accessories brand, Pooky & Boo. A long-time lover of dogs and interiors, I always wanted Pooky & Boo to combine my two passions, while also staying authentic to my desire to build an eco-friendly, environmentally-conscious brand.

It was always a key priority for me to ensure the fabrics and materials we use for our range are ethically and sustainably sourced, which at its core meant they had to be locally sourced and Australian made. I love working with and supporting local Australian businesses.

The actual inception of Pooky & Boo came to me in a cliché lightbulb moment, whilst driving my own furbaby, Farris, to his grooming appointment! Farris’ nicknames are either Pooky or Boo, hence the name Pooky & Boo Homewares for Pooch was formed. I really wanted to create a thoughtful and design-savvy brand that fellow pooch lovers would be proud to have in their home.

I absolutely love getting to work on my passion every day - and I hope you can see this reflected in my designs. To check them out, visit our online boutique
